Chapter Ten

Two things blocked Quincy’s concentration as he tried to lose himself in the book propped on his chest. The first quite pleasant...the memories of the day before. It hadn’t ended the way his prick had hoped—no sucking, no fucking, just a little frustrating heavy petting while the puppies napped—but it left him with a warm feeling inside.

Mostly, he and Caleb had talked—a kind of twenty questions to get to know each other. As the afternoon wore on and tummies started to rumble, Quincy threw together a simple meal. The pups loved the grilled chicken—they were wide awake by then. Overall, it had been a sweet day. He smiled as the memory washed over him.

As it grew dark, Caleb announced he needed to take the puppies home. There had been one more kiss. One, freakin’ delicious kiss that made his prick hard twelve hours later. Damn, if the man can kiss like that, I wonder what his lips can do to a cock?

Does he even suck cock? He’d better, Quincy decided. He’d spent two years with Martin who’d doled out blowjobs like Grandma’s secret Christmas cookie recipe. No way was Quincy getting into a relationship with another man who thought sucking cock was submissive or “too gay.” He was worth more than that. Worth someone who loved his cock as much as he loved theirs.

Power surged through his core. Dammit, he was worth it.

He slapped his hand on his hip, intending to grab his phone and call Deacon—he’d want to hear about Quincy’s newfound confidence—when he remembered his phone wasn’t there. Shit.

The second reason he couldn’t concentrate. His phone lay in the trash, a crumpled pile of plastic and transistors. Do phones have transistors any more? Did they ever? What exactly are transistors? Fuck. If I had my phone I could look that up.

Okay, so crushing his link to the outside world beneath his heel hadn’t been the smartest thing to do, but every time the panic of being phone-less overwhelmed him, he revived the satisfaction of silencing Martin’s scratchy voice.

Still, the quiet drove him nuts. No buzz from arriving texts, or pings from social media alerts. No calls. Damn.

He dropped the book on the cushion.

The reading distraction was a total fail. He shoved his body off the lumpy couch and walked a slow circle around the perimeter of the room. Didn’t take long. He reversed the circuit and ended in the same spot.

“I need to get out of here,” he announced to the empty room. Early morning rain had pounded on the roof but that stopped an hour ago. It might be muddy but he needed to move. Stalking to the door, Quincy smacked his palm against his ass, looking for his phone—damn—then guided his feet out the door and down the front steps. And stopped.

Bears. Remember. That’s why you’ve been holed up in the house.

Between the bear and the lightning, this trip cracked the top five of his worst play dates ever.

On the upside, he’d met those cute wolf puppies.
